05.30.12 plaza art fair

I should this last fall during the Plaza Art Fair on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. This image caught my eye as I was review my catalog. The combination of sun, clouds, water and people activity make this an interesting shot.

Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4.1, NIK Color Efex Pro 4 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 24-105mm lens.

05.28.12 metal flowers

I discovered these metal flowers at the Kansas City River Market. The reflective metal pedels make nice reflectors of all the activity in the market.

This is an in camera 3 image HDR capture (the new option in the Canon 5D Make III). Processed in Photomatrix and Adobe Lightroom 4. Shot Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 24-105mm lens.

05.27.12 bananas

This shot of a bunch of bananas felt like a perfect image for a Polaroid transfer effect. I used my PhotoshopIsland Polaroid Transfer product and customized the color and textures. You can learn more about the product here: polaroid-transfer.com

This is an in camera 3 image HDR capture (new option available in the Canon 5D Make III). Processed in Photomatrix, Adobe Lightroom 4, Adobe Photoshop CS6 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4. Shot Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 24-105mm lens.

05.26.12 hibiscus

I shot this beautiful hibiscus with my iPhone 4s. The iPhone did a great job. The 8 megapixels and all-new optics might be the very best reason to upgrade to the 4s if you have an older iPhone and like to shoot images with it.

Processed in Adobe Photoshop CS 6, Adobe Lightroon 4 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.25.12 windmill + clouds

Another iPhone image. We've had some great clouds the last couple of days. I don't see many windmills…seems like I saw them all the time when I was a kid. Maybe I just haven't been looking.

Processed Adobe Lightroom 4 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.24.12 one tree sunset

We had an interesting sunset right after some rain so I ran out and shot some images. This is a HDR image using the HDR mode on the Canon 5D Mark III. I decided to set the Canon HDR "Adjust dyn range" to auto. The resulting three shots offered a nice exposure range but once again I was disappointed in the image the camera's internal software generated. So I drop the three images into Photomatrix for processing.

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 17-40mm lens. Processed in Adobe Lightroom, Photomatrix and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.23.12 river market red doors

The is a new image from the Kansas City River Market to add to my growing collection images shot in the area. This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-105mm lens. I am still experimenting with the in camera HDR function. Again I was unimpressed with he results of the three images as processed in the camera. I decided the process the three images in Photomatrix and then applied a few minor adjustments in Adobe Lightroom 4.

05.22.12 what? portrait

This is a portrait that captures the essence of this boy at this moment in his life. One of the reasons I enjoy still photography is that it freezes time. When you view a frozen moment it's like a time machine taking you back to that very moment and your mind works at filling in the details that your eyes can't see.

This image is technically more about the power of combined modern technology. This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III at 4000 ISO. In the past I would not have even bother shooting at an ISO that high. The 5D Mark III allows for some amazing low light shooting. Add the power of Adobe Lightroom 4's processing and a quality image in this situation becomes a reality.

As noted above, this was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III and 24-105mm lens. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.21.12 dam burst

The image I posted yesterday was one of the very last images I shot at Hoover Dam when I was there in January. Today's image is the very first image I shot at the dam that day. The sun suddenly burst through the dark rain clouds and on to the dam. I got the shot. The image is taken from The Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge looking over the Hoover Dam. The bridge's shadow is visible in the image.

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and  Canon 17-40mm lens. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4.1 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.20.12 hoover dam substation

I shot this near Hoover Dam on my trip to Las Vegas in January of this year. This is a substation humming with power. It was nearly dark when I shot this 9 image HDR. HDR images really shine under this kind of light.

Processed in Photomatrix and Adobe Lightroom 4.1. This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 17-40mm lens.

05.19.12 iphone pasture sunset

I snapped this image with my iPhone while I was out for a walk. It didn't look anything close to what I saw but I decided to challenge myself and see that I could pull out. The new Adobe Lightroom 4 has excellent highlight and shadow tools that allowed me to pull out detail.

05.18.12 fire dept connection

This brass rusty building sprinkler plumbing caught my attention on a photo exploration walk. The description on the exterior says it's fire dept connection. Exposed brass generates some nice color!

Shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-105mm lens. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.17.12 glass & reflections

This is an exterior shot of the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri. The exterior, designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, provides interesting images from every angle.

I gave the built in HDR functionality a try in the Canon 5d Mark III. I was not happy with the in camera HRD image so I processed the three images the camera produced in Photomatrix and then a little work in Adobe Lightroom. Shot with a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 24-105mm lens.

05.16.12 jc nichols fountain indian horseman

I always enjoy a visit to the JC Nichols fountain on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. The fountain is wonderful to take in as a whole but there's an abundance of detail when you move in a little closer as well. This is a shot of one of the four horsemen included in the fountain.

Shot on a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 24-105 lens. I did all the processing in Lightroom 4 - I continue to be impressed with it's powerful adjustment tools.

05.15.12 iou/usa

This is a shot of an installation called IOU/USA created by John Salvest that's in Memorial Hill Park in Kansas City, Missouri. This is the USA side. I shot this right as the sunset.

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 24-105mm lens. Processed in Adobe Lightroom and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.14.12 demolition

I've been driving by this demolition project for a few weeks. I finally got a chance to stop by and see if there were any interesting image opportunities. The area was blocked off so I could not get as close as I wanted but in the end I think this made an interesting image.

This image is the result of an eleven shot HDR combination. Shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-105mm lens. Processed in Photomatrix, NIK Color Efex Pro 4 and Adobe Lightroom.

05.12.12 roses

This is a shot taken at the Northland Fountain in north Kansas City, Missouri. I think the red roses make for a nice Mother's Day image. Just to show my level of dedication to my photography and mothers and I was stuck with a few rose thorns in the process of getting this shot.

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 24-105mm lens. Processing in Adobe Lightroom 4.1 rc2, Photoshop CS6 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.

05.11.12 historic city market

I shot this at the Kansas City River Market. This is the main entrance on the north side of downtown just a few blocks from the Missouri River.

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 24-105mm lens. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 4.1 rc2 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4.
